Olympia’s CAKE: A Sweet Artistic Feast in NYC

Summertime in New York City is about to get sweeter as the Lower East Side gallery, Olympia, prepares to host a unique one-night exhibition titled CAKE. This event will showcase and offer guests the opportunity to indulge in artist-made desserts generously donated by 33 New York-based artists. The show not only serves as a fundraising feast for the gallery but also as a participatory performance art experience.

The concept of CAKE was inspired by a series of serendipitous events, including artist Heather Benjamin’s cupcake display at her solo show’s closing. Olympia’s founder, Ali Rossi, envisioned a community-centric event that would bring artists together for a single night of celebration and creativity. The exhibition space will be transformed into a pink, sweet box-like setting on the upper level, reminiscent of Leonardo da Vinci’s Last Supper.

Melissa Joseph, a Brooklyn-based artist and Uovo Prize winner, will debut her felt-based practice translated into cotton candy at CAKE. Renowned cake artist Madeline Bach, known as the Frosted Hag, will present a vanilla cardamom sponge cake among other delectable treats.
