A young woman from Andover, Massachusetts, Hannah Finn, embarked on a mission to brighten the lives of thousands of children by ensuring they feel special on their birthdays. At just 14 years old, she initiated the One Wish Project, which continues to thrive eight years later. The organization’s primary goal is to ensure that every child, regardless of their circumstances, receives recognition and celebration on their special day.

The One Wish Project, a nonprofit venture, engages volunteers who bake personalized cakes and deliver gifts to children facing homelessness. Hannah emphasizes that the project goes beyond merely providing a birthday cake; it serves as a poignant reminder to these children that they are not forgotten. She believes that while not everyone can relate to the challenges these children face, everyone understands the significance of celebrating a birthday.
When Hannah first launched the One Wish Project in her family’s kitchen, she utilized her earnings from babysitting to kickstart the endeavor. Her love for baking and desire to make a difference inspired her to channel her passion into helping others. Over the years, the organization has grown significantly, boasting a volunteer base of 300 individuals and aiming to impact 2,000 children annually.

Executive Director Claudia Mintz, who is also Hannah’s mother, assumed the organization’s day-to-day operations when Hannah pursued her college education. With a dedicated team, they personalize each cake to suit the recipient’s preferences, incorporating details such as interests and favorite colors provided by the shelters. The One Wish Project is gearing up for its fourth annual Light-a-Candle celebration in Andover on June 5.

Despite initially envisioning the project as a one-year commitment, Hannah’s dedication and impact have far exceeded expectations. Mintz acknowledges the profound impact of Hannah’s initiative, recognizing it as a truly special endeavor. The organization’s success lies in its ability to spread joy and create meaningful moments for children in need.

The One Wish Project’s growth and impact serve as a testament to the power of a single individual’s compassion and determination to make a difference. By fostering a sense of community and support, the organization not only brings smiles to children’s faces but also instills a sense of hope and belonging in their hearts.

As the One Wish Project continues to expand its reach and touch the lives of more children, it stands as a beacon of kindness and generosity in a world where such gestures are invaluable. Through Hannah Finn’s vision and the dedication of the volunteers and supporters, the organization exemplifies the transformative impact of small acts of kindness and the profound joy that comes from spreading love and compassion.
