Network Ten’s Melbourne Christmas gathering took place at The Osborne, a rooftop pub, in a relatively subdued manner compared to other media events at the same venue. Craig Hutchison’s Sports Entertainment Network (SEN) hosted a livelier affair with 150 staff members in attendance. The occasion marked not only the festive season but also celebrated a significant milestone – Hutchison’s 50th birthday, following the company’s financial recovery from the previous year.
Just a year ago, Sports Entertainment Group faced financial challenges and had to sell assets to settle debts. The successful turnaround was evident as SEN’s event was described as the more spirited of the two parties by attendees. Hutchison, the media and sports mogul, was in high spirits at the event, receiving a commemorative plaque and a birthday cake adorned with his likeness.
Despite the celebratory atmosphere, Hutchison opted for an early night and left the event promptly. Meanwhile, the Network Ten team eventually joined the SEN party, marking a coming together of television colleagues in a festive setting.
Reflecting on the evening, attendees noted the enjoyable and lively atmosphere at SEN’s event, hinting at the possibility of a grander celebration in the future. With Lisa Wilkinson’s reported departure from Network Ten, the network may have more resources available for future festivities.
