Pret A Manger Unveils New Made-to-Order Bakery Experience

Pret A Manger has introduced a new shop format that showcases a made-to-order menu, featuring a variety of bakery dishes such as hot ciabattas, sourdough toasties, and stuffed croissants. This initiative is part of the brand’s strategy to cater to diverse working patterns and lifestyles as it expands its presence across the UK. The new layout, currently being trialed at locations in Maidenhead and Broughty Ferry, offers a more spacious and family-friendly environment.

The brand recently achieved a significant milestone of 500 shops nationwide, with a remarkable growth trajectory outside of London. Approximately half of Pret’s UK stores are now located outside the capital, and the brand has expanded internationally to operate in 21 markets, including a recent entry into South Africa. The new shop design deviates from Pret’s traditional grab-and-go range, with a focus on a dine-in experience where customers can witness the preparation of their meals.

The exclusive menu for the new format includes a range of hot items like the Meatball & Red Pepper Tapenade Ciabatta Sub and Caprese Melt Sourdough Toastie, along with breakfast options such as Cinnamon Butter & Banana Sourdough Toast and savory croissants. Additionally, the bakery selection features an array of sweet treats, including tarts and cakes. Customers can still enjoy grab-and-go options from refrigerated units, along with a unique organic coffee blend served by Pret’s baristas.

Clare Clough, Pret’s managing director for the UK & Europe, emphasized the brand’s commitment to making Pret accessible to a broader audience, providing a comfortable space for customers to savor delicious food and socialize. The newly opened Broughty Ferry shop near Dundee offers seating for 78 patrons and is operated by Pret’s franchise partner Joup Group. Similarly, the Maidenhead site, set to open on June 21, will accommodate 87 guests for indoor and outdoor dining, managed by franchise partner Hala Group.

In addition to the savory offerings, Pret has introduced filled baguettes, salads, and platters as part of its spring menu for 2025. The exclusive bakery items being trialed at the new shop format include a diverse range of options, from Scottish Smoked Salmon & Free-Range Egg Mayo Croissant to Nutty Pistachio & Almond Loaf Cake. This expansion of the menu reflects Pret’s commitment to evolving its offerings to meet the changing preferences of its customers.
